2017 / Product design / Ode
Ode is a small shelf created to celebrate the timeless design of books. An object that, in it’s physical appearance, has looked more or less the same for the past 1500 years; from ancient Egyptian scripts, via the Gutenberg bible all the way to the digital books of today.
The shelf consists of six different compartments. The titles that are currently being read can be rested on the top. On the narrow shelf underneath, reading glasses and other accessories can be stored. One shelf is accurately dimensioned for paperback books and the larger shelf suits a variety of formats. A simple hatch inspired by confession booths hides the users’ guilty pleasure books (we all have them). The bottom shelf is more open, better suited for coffee table books laying face–up.
